Our Sustainability Efforts
Playa Cativo Eco Lodge aims to be 100% sustainable. We believe that the protection of the rainforest and ocean is the responsibility of the community as a whole. Therefore, our commitment and actions support the local economy, and we work together with the area authorities. Purchasing at the regional stores or directly from the producers' fuels the local economy while guaranteeing the freshest products for our guests.
We generate 100% clean electric energy by hydropower, complemented by solar panels, and we also heat our water with solar power. In turn, our guests can enjoy clean air and undisturbed silence.
All bathroom amenities, as well as cleaning and laundry products, are biodegradable and manufactured in Costa Rica to minimize our carbon footprint. We ask guests to use our complimentary quality products and avoid bringing non-biodegradable shampoos, conditioners, soaps, and similar products.
We also ask that guests avoid bringing devices that will overtly tax our fragile electrical system, such as hairdryers. If you have any specific questions please reach out to our reservations team and we will be happy to assist you with details.
Solar Power
Playa Cativo harnesses solar power through cutting-edge photovoltaic panels, converting sunlight into usable electricity. The power is then transformed into alternating current (AC) through a sophisticated inverter. Additional components like batteries may be incorporated for energy storage. By embracing this solar power system, Playa Cativo confidently relies on clean and sustainable electricity, reducing its environmental footprint significantly.
Hydro Electric
Playa Cativo uses the flowing water from our many on property waterfalls and creeks to generate hydroelectric power for the property. This sustainable power reduces reliance on non-renewable sources, harnessing the kinetic energy of water for an eco-friendly and greener future. Our hydropower is stored in batteries alongside the power generated from our solar panels to supply energy to the entire property.
